With growing evidence linking the chemicals in our foods and environment to modern day diseases and illness, the organic home gardener is gaining popularity. However modern life means families are more often than not, time-challenged, making the normal upkeep of an organic garden time consuming. Bamboo mulch is not only good for your soil and plants it minimises your time in the garden and maximises your output.
New to the market, BambooHill Bamboo Mulch is receiving glowing reports. Introducing Derrick from BambooHill.
Q1. What do you do?
We harvest and process bamboo into premium, fine grade organic garden mulch. Bamboo mulch is manufactured from locally grown bamboo. It is processed and packaged in Eumundi, Sunshine Coast, Queensland. We have worked with horticulturists and spent years of testing to develop the product.
Q2. What got you started in the chemical-free industry?
I have always been fascinated with bamboo and have been working with it since 2011. Bamboo is a magnificent renewable plant species, it is naturally fast growing and fully renewable – It’s Mother Natures solution to forest degradation and to alleviate the mess we have made of this planet, as it’s long been recognised as “nature’s answer” to the carbon dioxide dilemma.
I “stumbled” across the idea of using bamboo mulch as a garden product on the way towards developing a range of exciting products. I see bamboo’s potential as an alternative resource for the manufacture of many building products as well as paper, cardboard and textiles.
We are now committed to developing an Australian Bamboo Agribusiness.
Q3. What makes your product or service different?
We have worked with horticulturalists for the last few years to ensure a superior quality mulch that’s manufactured from locally grown bamboo. All our bamboo is harvested above ground level to ensure that the end product is free of contamination by
- soil,
- herbicides,
- pesticides,
- synthetic fertilisers,
- seeds,
- grass and weeds.
That means these don’t end up in your garden and there’s no weeding!
Only 100% bamboo stems are used, milled into a softer, easy to handle mulch that anyone from manage. It is available in easy to use take home packs that have a coverage between 2 > 5 square metres.
BambooHill Mulch is permeable enough to allow rain and water from the hose to penetrate to the roots of your plants, but it’s not going to float away during heavy rains like other mulches can, saving you money! It’s the only choice for all sloping garden.
Lasting for up to 18 months, it is long-lasting protection for your garden, whether it’s for the home garden, or for landscaping, commercial and agricultural applications.
Being high in silica, bamboo mulch can increase stress resistance, boost photosynthesis and chlorophyll content, improve drought resistance, salt tolerance and soil fertility and prevent lodging. It can also reduce insect pressure, frost damage and destructive disease while lowering irrigation rates, neutralising heavy metal toxicity, countering the negative effects of excess sodium, increase root growth, boost yield and enhance crop quality.
Woody mulches such as sawdust, bark and woodchip typically have a high nitrogen drawdown which means the micro-organisms, fungi and bacteria will try to compost the mulch. To do that, they need to draw nutrients out of the soil. A high nitrogen drawdown requires additional fertilisers to maintain healthy soil. Bamboo mulch has a low nitrogen drawdown, which reduces the need for additional fertilising. Another benefit is the marked increase in worm activity underneath bamboo mulch.
With growing evidence linking the chemicals in our foods and environment to modern day diseases and illness, the organic home gardener is gaining popularity in our neighbourhoods. However modern life means families are more often than not, time challenged, making the normal upkeep of an organic garden time consuming. Bamboo mulch minimises your time in the garden and maximises your output.
